CIMM is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in marine mammals, combining scientific research and education, plus a passionate staff to answer all your questions. This science museum welcomes over 50,000 visitors every summer, making it the most popular museum in the Côte-Nord region!

Managed by the Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals (GREMM), CIMM is the leading resource and information centre on the whales of the St. Lawrence.

Our activities

Immerse yourself in the world of whales and the North Shore through CIMM’s wide range of activities!

No reservations are required for individual or family visits. For groups of 12 or more, reservations are mandatory.

Permanent exhibit

From floor to ceiling, fifteen authentic whale skeletons inhabit the CIMM exhibit!

Enjoy your walk among the bones by tallying the teeth of Valleau, a 13-metre sperm whale, or stepping inside the gaping mouth of Piper, a North Atlantic right whale. Just a few paces from there, pick up a narwhal tusk, feel the jaw of a blue whale, or test your lung capacity against deep-diving marine mammals!

Dive into the world of St. Lawrence whales through the “Bones with Stories to Tell” interpretive activity put together by a passionate team of naturalists. Last but not least, enjoy a unique immersive sound and light show with the Whale Ballet!

All our naturalists are bilingual and available to answer whatever questions you might have about whales.

Virtual reality auditorium

In CIMM’s virtual reality auditorium, we present exclusive video footage captured in the St. Lawrence, as well as the Window on Belugas activity, which features live and pre-recorded drone images of belugas. A truly immersive experience into the world of whales!

The room features a 6-metre by 4-metre screen and acoustic panels to ensure a most memorable acoustic experience. The virtual reality auditorium is intimate and can accommodate up to 40 people.

Whale song workshop

Want to discover and imitate whale vocalizations? That’s what the whale song workshop is for! These 15-minute lessons allow people of all ages to discover the mysterious world of whale songs while having fun.

The highlight is when participants reproduce the melodies of humpbacks, blue whales, and belugas using a unique instrument called a “whalephone.”

Don’t miss this free activity in the Jardin de la Grève, next to the CIMM! No reservations required!

Gift shop

With its wide range of exclusive products, the CIMM gift shop has something for everyone! The best part is that all proceeds are directly invested into GREMM research programs to support and protect the whales of the St. Lawrence. A great excuse to treat yourself to a souvenir!

GREMM also runs a shop on the Baie-Sainte-Catherine wharf. Come say hello!

Jardin de la Grève

Are you curious about the flora of the North Shore? Located at CIMM’s doorstep, the Jardin de la Grève brings together 50,000 perennials and other plants typical of Quebec’s Côte-Nord region. Come have a look!

This garden also features five life-size beluga sculptures. The Jardin de la Grève is used as a space for relaxation, contemplation, and activities.

It’s at the bottom of the village and a 3-minute walk from the marina!

Parking
Tadoussac is a pedestrian-friendly village that’s easy to get around on foot!

Adjacent to the CIMM, however, is a parking lot owned by the Municipality of Tadoussac. Rates and availability are subject to change.

CIMM is air-conditioned. Perfect for hot days on the North Shore!

Minimum group size is 12 persons. Each group is greeted by one of CIMM’s bilingual naturalists.

Cancellation policy
Cancellations made at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled visit are fully refundable. Beyond this, a penalty equal to 20% of the total bill will be charged.
